Tracking lingering storms tonight, but most will stay dry for fireworks

TONIGHT: A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 7 pm for eastern portions of Mid-Missouri tonight, though as of 4 pm most storms already appear to be clearing out of the region. Some lingering rainfall may continue behind the main front, but it's looking like most of the area should be dry for firework time. That said, keep an eye on the sky and radar, and make sure you have an umbrella handy, as pop-ups could continue throughout the evening. Most of the region hit triple digit heat indexes once again today, but temperatures will become much more tolerable once the sun goes down, dropping to the low 70s tonight.

TOMORROW: A cold front steadily moving through the region will bring much more comfortable conditions, but more storms are expected along its leading edge overnight, primarily along and south of I-44. Further pop ups are possible later in the morning for areas farther north, but much of the region should be dry by lunchtime. Temperatures will reach the mid 80s with heat indexes finally at a more tolerable level, only expected to reach the mid-90s.

EXTENDED: Dry days are ahead as moisture will steadily clear out of the region with the passing of cooler, drier air. While temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 80s for the foreseeable future, a lack of humidity means the feels like will closely match the ambient temperature, a welcome change from the brutal heat we've been experiencing over the last several days. A slight chance for a pop-up shower is possible in the heat of the day from Monday thru Wednesday, but the vast majority will still dry and enjoy lots of sunshine. Our next active weather pattern moves in on Thursday, which gives the region an elevated rain chance through Saturday, though showers will remain widely scattered and there should still be a good amount of dry time.
