Woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter denied new trial

A woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the March 2015 death of Mark Severtsen will not receive a new trial.

Nicole Weddington was convicted in December 2016 and sentenced to five days in the Boone County Jail. Her attorney requested a new trial and that request was denied Monday in a Boone County courtroom. The judge imposed the jail sentence after denying the new trial request.

Weddington will be free on an appeals bond, which means she will not have to serve the five days in jail while her case is being appealed.
