Police take two juveniles into custody after assault in central Columbia

UPDATE 9:30 a.m: A spokesperson for Columbia Public schools has contacted ABC17.

She said the incident happened at a school bus stop and its CPD’s case. She could not release any more details because it dealt with juveniles.

UPDATE 8:16am: Columbia police confirm they have taken two, female juveniles into custody after responding to an assault involving three juveniles. No word yet on if anyone was hurt in the assault.

UPDATE 7:23am: Police confirm they found someone on the ground when they got to the scene of a medical response Monday morning.

Officers would not comment on the incident because they say it involved all juveniles.

ABC 17 News crews saw two Student Transportation of America school buses on the scene. That’s the bus service Columbia Public Schools uses.

ABC 17 News has reached out to a spokesperson for CPS to find out if any students were involved in the incident. We’re still waiting to hear back.

ORIGINAL: Police have shut down a section of a central Columbia road Monday for a reported medical response.

Crews were first called out around 6:45 Monday morning near Garth and Pendleton Street. Right now at least one lane of Garth is shut down.

Our ABC 17 News crews had heard reports of a possible assault that left someone unconscious. We are working to confirm that with officers on scene.

Right now, two school buses, police, an ambulance and firefighters are on scene.

Our ABC 17 News crew says they saw officers talking to what looks like three juveniles who were carrying backpacks.

ABC 17 News is working to find out if anyone was hurt in the incident and if any students were involved. We’ll update this story as we find out more.
