Columbia Public Works to call in snowplow crew overnight

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Works snowplows will be ready to start working early Saturday as rain ends and snow starts.

A 16-worker crew will start work at 3 a.m., the city said in a news release.

ABC 17's Stormtrack team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Saturday because of the chance for snow. Precipitation began falling as rain Friday afternoon but is expected to change to snow overnight, with northern reaches of Mid-Missouri seeing snow first. Columbia could see 2 or more inches of snow, with higher totals north and lower totals to the south.

Snow is expected to reach the Columbia area several hours before daylight Saturday.

Columbia crews will begin treating first- and second-priority roads once rain changes to snow, according to the city.

A full, 27-person crew will start work at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Columbia prohibits parking on priority streets when snow reaches accumulations of 2 inches or more. Vehicles left on those roads will be towed and their owners ticketed. City ordinance also requires property owners to remove snow from sidewalks along their property.
