Wind speeds and how they affect us

Thanks to a tightening pressure gradient, the winds in Mid-Missouri will be on the increase today into Wednesday. These winds come as a warm front lifts northward into the region, not only pulling in warmth, but a slight chance of precipitation into the evening hours.

While rain is expected, our greatest impact will come from the winds. Wind speeds will gusts up to 30+ mph the next two days, which is enough to cause resistance when walking in the wind. For over 200 years, Meteorologist have used the Beaufort scale to observe conditions when it comes to the wind. Attached is a picture of the impacts that each wind speed will have in an area.

From now until Thursday morning, Mid-MIssouri will be in the light yellow to orange scale. This will be enough to cause small trees to sway, umbrellas to turn inside out, and walkers to feel wind resistance.
