Changing conditions by mid-week causing for a slight chance of snow

After a mild and dry start to the work week, we have changing conditions in the forecast for the middle of the week. As a high pressure system builds into mid-Missouri on Monday, we will have dry and calm conditions. Temperatures will be sitting above average in the upper 40s. Tuesday will be even warmer in the upper 50s.

Conditions will begin to change Tuesday evening. These changes are all ahead of a passing cold front. The most notable change will be the drop in temperatures. Wednesday’s high temperatures are currently forecasted to be 14 degrees colder than Tuesday. The overnight lows will drop below freezing behind the front.

Along with colder temperatures, we can expect rain and potentially snow out of this passing cold front. Tuesday night we can expect light rain accumulations north of I-70. The chance of rain continues throughout the daytime hours on Wednesday. Models are currently showing only light accumulations. Wednesday night is when the chance of rain showers turns into snow showers. As temperatures drop below freezing we may see some snow flurries during the evening hours.

Even though temperatures will be dropping through the end of the week, they will be on target for the seasonal average. The average temperature for the end of January is 40 degrees.
