Right to Work advances to Missouri Senate
The fate of so-called “right to work” legislation now rests in the hands of the Missouri Senate.
In a 100-59 vote on Thursday, the House passed right to work legislation sponsored by Rep. Holly Rehder. The combined legislation consists of Rehder’s bill, HB 91, as well as house bills 42, 131, 265 and 314.
All the bills essentially call for lifting a requirement for an employee to join a labor union and pay union dues.
After approval in the House, the legislation moved on to the Missouri Senate, and has already received its first reading there.
The Senate will begin debate on the legislation next week.
Both the Republican super majority in the Legislature and Gov. Eric Greitens have said that making Missouri a right to work state is a priority this session.
