Monday Morning January 2

TODAY: Most areas will see drizzle this morning and fog for the morning commute. Light rain and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder are possible by 6AM-8AM near the eastern Ozarks and I-44. Areas along and east of HWY 54 have the better chance for light rain. This lifts out by 10AM-11AM, leaving a mainly cloudy day with temperatures warming to the upper 40s to low 50s, with southeasterly winds of 4-9 mph. Rain amounts of .01″ to .10″ are possible. Another chance for rain looks to increase by 3PM in northwest Missouri where areas west of US 63 and north of I-70 could see a few t-storms at this time.

TONIGHT: It will be a cloudy night with light rain possible as a cold front approaches Mid-Missouri. It will be very mild for early January with temperatures in the mid 40s with calm winds becoming northerly by daybreak on Tuesday.

EXTENDED: Drizzle is possible with the frontal passage on Tuesday morning. Temperatures will not begin to drop until Tuesday afternoon as the front moves farther to the SE. Bitterly cold air will be present by Wednesday morning with the temperature near 15 degrees and a wind chill of 5-10. Daytime highs will remain below freezing for the rest of the week with the morning lows in the teens. We’re keeping an eye on a shot at light snow returning by Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and again possibly on Saturday. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
