St. Charles County deputy mowed down by SUV fleeing police

KMIZ

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — A deputy with the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department was seriously injured after being hit early Wednesday morning by a sport utility vehicle that fled a police stop. Authorities say the incident happened around 4 a.m. near Interstate 70 and 5th Street in St. Charles County, after members of the county’s auto theft task force stopped the SUV. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that officers were talking to people in the SUV when the driver sped off, ramming a St. Charles County police vehicle and hitting the deputy who was standing by the road. Officials have not released the name of the deputy, who was taken to a hospital. Two people in the SUV were later arrested after it crashed into a police car during a chase.
