Wednesday Morning December 28

TODAY: Where winds are stagnant this morning temperatures will fall to the mid 20s. A surface high east of Mid-Missouri is bringing clear skies and southerly winds to start our Wednesday. Temperatures will be 5-7 degrees warmer in the afternoon reaching in the low 50s. A cold front will move through by evening bringing passing clouds during the day today. There is an isolated shower chance near I-44 from 3PM-7PM, while most areas stay dry.

TONIGHT: As this cold front sweeps through this evening, clouds look to clear our north of I-70 by 6PM-8PM, and south by 7PM-9PM. A west/northwest breeze picks up overnight with sustained winds of 10-13 mph. While a clear sky and northwest wind, temperatures should remain above normal near 30 overnight.

EXTENDED: It will be cooler and windy Thursday with highs in the low to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies. Westerly winds of 15-20 mph will gust as high as 30 mph. Due to dry air in place, and with sustained winds of 20 mph near HWY 65, and elevated fire risk is possible, and outdoor burning should be avoided in western Missouri. As another cold front moves in this weekend, moisture will return ahead of it from the south but looks light. There is a slight chance of light rain or rain/snow mix early Saturday morning southeast of HWY 54, with the better chance near I-44. High temperatures will reach the mid-upper 40s Saturday and lower 40s New Year’s Day. There is a chance of showers Sunday with a better rain chance late Sunday night into Monday. If showers move earlier in the morning, we’ll need to keep an eye on ice south of I-70 early Sunday as temperatures look to be below 32. Our next arctic blast hits next week with falling temperatures Tuesday. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
