Mizzou hoops postpones SEC home opener due to COVID-19 concerns
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou men's basketball team has postponed its SEC home opener due to COVID-19 concerns. A team spokesperson made the announcement on Monday.
The Tigers will no longer host Mississippi State on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
The spokesperson said in a release, "The University of Missouri men’s basketball game against Mississippi State on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022 at Mizzou Arena has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Mizzou program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements."
The spokesperson added there is no make-up date at this time.
Per the release, "Tickets to the game will be honored if the game is able to be rescheduled. If the game is not rescheduled, tickets will be refunded."
Mizzou is 6-7 overall this season. Up next - the Tigers are scheduled to host Alabama on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Also on Monday - the MU women's basketball team announced it has rescheduled its game against Vanderbilt. The Tigers will now play in Nashville on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. This game was originally supposed to be played this past Sunday, but it was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns within the MU program.
On KTGR's Tiger Talk on Monday night - head coach Robin Pingeton says she feels "very strongly" that MU will be able to play its next game at home against Auburn on Thursday at 7 p.m.
