Wednesday Evening, December 21

TONIGHT: Temperatures will drop into the low to mid 20s by morning as high clouds move through. Light fog is possible toward morning with light northwesterly winds.

THURSDAY: It will be cooler Thursday with high temperatures near 40 under partly cloudy skies and light northwesterly winds under 10 mph.

EXTENDED: A complex pattern approaches this weekend. There is a slight chance for ice on Friday morning for those west of US 63 and north of HWY 50. Most forecast models hold off on the rain until the afternoon when temperatures are above freezing. However given last weeks scenario, forecast models have not done a great job on picking up ice. If this system moves in quicker, it will move out quicker Saturday morning. Much will depend on timing and temperature profiles. Those north of I-70 will see temperatures near 32-35 overnight and a mix of rain/ snow or period of freezing rain is possible which could cause slick roads from 4-9 AM Saturday, mainly north of I-70. Temperatures will warm into the 40s by Saturday afternoon with rain showers possible. Christmas looks breezy & warm with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, possibly near 60. As a cold front moves in Sunday night, showers and t-storms will increase. A strong storm can’t be ruled out on Sunday evening. Total rainfall amounts for the weekend are expected to come in at .50″ to 1.25″. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
