Firefighters detect high levels of carbon monoxide in west Boone County home

Firefighters are working to find out what causing high level of carbon monoxide in a Boone County home.

Firefighters with the Boone County Fire Protection District say people who lived in a home in the 1100 block of Victoria Avenue started to feel sick and evacuated just before 7:00am.

They say when they arrived on scene they detected high levels of CO.

Firefighters tell our crews the family felt better once they were outside.

Officials say a faulty appliance or a broken pilot light are usually the cause of high CO level, but say Ameren and an HVAC company will determine the official cause.

Right now firefighters are using a fan to air out the house and say it’ll likely be another hour before the residents can go back inside.

Firefighters say Ameren crews are on the way. They have temporarily turned off the gas to the home until crews can find out what is causing the high carbon monoxide levels.
