EPPD: Woman raped; found brutally beaten in West El Paso
Police told ABC-7 Thursday they have no suspects in the violent sexual assault of a woman found early Tuesday morning on a sidewalk on the 800 block of North Resler Drive in West El Paso.
At about 5:30 a.m., EPPD patrol officers were driving by the area and spotted the severely beaten woman lying on the ground on the sidewalk in front of a Whataburger, police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Carrillo said.
Police said the woman’s car was found across the street at the Franklin Pointe shopping center.
A woman who works at Nationwide Insurance, near where the woman’s car was found, said the car was removed early Thursday morning.
ABC-7 spotted numerous blood stains in the parking lot on both sides of the space where the woman’s car was found.
“We don’t even know where the assault happened at this point,” Carrillo told ABC-7.
The woman was taken to a hospital and her medical condition is unknown. Crimes Against Persons Unit detectives are investigating.
The area where the woman was found, near the intersection of North Resler and Redd Road, features numerous stores like Walgreens and CVS and restaurants, like Ardovino’s. Franklin High School is across the street.
“I don’t know if she was trying to get over there to (Whataburger) get help, because there’s really nothing open in this shopping center,” said a woman named Gracie, who works at Nationwide Insurance near where the woman’s car was found.
West El Pasoans who frequent the area told ABC-7 they were shocked.
“It’s a big concern, because it’s a very safe area,” said Angelo Muguiro. “We always felt safe. Something like this happening, it’s a concern.”
“This is scary, because it’s close to schools and its a nice neighborhood,” said West El Pasoan Marissa Lascuran. “Very scary. We need to be careful when we drive after that, because you never know.”
Added Federico Valdez, who was meeting a friend for breakfast Thursday morning: “The two years I lived here, I never knew about anything like this. It’s a very safe part of the city.”
