Tracking hit and miss rain chances over the holiday weekend

TODAY: Friday is yet another ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as heat persists. We expect heat index values near 100 degrees again today. Isolated storms are possible during the afternoon, but we'll be keeping an eye on a cluster of storms from the north by late this morning, as it could bring rain chances to some by the early afternoon in the north.

TONIGHT: Temperatures are warm again overnight, with mostly clear conditions. Temperatures remain in the 80s until after midnight. Storms across the plains will be ongoing, and potentially tracking towards mid-Missouri overnight. This path is uncertain, but it has a significant impact on the Saturday forecast.

EXTENDED: Storm chances on Saturday hinge upon whether those dive south into our region, or skip us to the north. If they skip us, we'll stay dry and hot, with isolated storm chances Saturday afternoon and evening. This will likely leave us with a lot of dry time for fireworks Saturday night. If storms arrive early Saturday, they may make for a cooler and wetter day, but they should exit by the evening. This could leave us clear in time for fireworks as well. Sunday will bring another chance for these scattered showers and storms as we'll be tracking another wave to the north late Saturday night. Low rain chances linger with cooler temperatures expected next week.
