JCPD begins DWI enforcement campaign
The Jefferson City Police Department will increase its presence on the roads, beginning Thursday and continuing until Jan 1.
It’s an effort made possible through grants from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traffic and Highway Safety division and the Missouri Safety Center.
“It’s never worth the risk to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” said Police Chief Roger Schroeder. “Drivers can lose their license, pay large fines and attorney fees, lose time at work potentially affecting their job status or, worst of all, cause a tragic loss of life.”
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, 197 people were killed on Missouri roadways last year in collisions that involved at least one impaired driver.
During the 2014 Christmas Holiday season in Missouri (Dec. 18, 2015, through Jan. 3, 2016), 11 people were killed and 25 were seriously injured in crashes involving at least one impaired driver.
