Columbia woman dies from injuries after car fire

UPDATE 12/12: The victim that was on fire died from their injuries on Dec. 9. The victim was a forty year old female. ABC 17 News is working with officials to get the name of the victim.

UPDATE: ABC 17 News spoke with a witness who drove by the scene. The witness wanted to remain anonymous but mentioned they saw several people in the parking lot during the time of the fire.

The witness said there were three people in the parking lot, two of whom the witness said were just watching the man burn and one lady was trying to help but didn’t know what to do.

The witness also mentioned seeing an unknown colored sedan in the parking lot.

ORIGINAL: The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a person on fire at 3201 Creasy Springs Road, Bear Creek Trail on Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews arrived on the scene approximately five minutes later and observed a vehicle entirely on flames and a subject with significant burns outside the vehicle on the ground.

This subject was transferred to University Hospital by ambulance with assistance from fire department personnel. The vehicle fire was extinguished with major damage to the vehicle. There were no additional injuries reported.

Columbia Fire Department Investigators are working with the Columbia Police Department to determine the cause of the fire.
