No one hurt in south Columbia apartment complex fire overnight

UPDATE 6:42am: The Columbia Fire Marshal tells ABC 17 News no one was hurt in Thursday morning apartment fire.

He says they are still investigating the cause of the fire and did not have information on a damage estimate.

Officials say Thursday morning’s freezing temperatures impacted firefighters.

They say water they used to put out the fire was freezing quickly so they had to be careful not to slip on it. They also said the low temperatures can freeze some of the gear they use.

UPDATE 5:24am: Smoke is still showing at a south Columbia apartment fire after flames broke out overnight.

Crews first responded just before 5:00am Thursday in the 2300 block of Providence Road.

Our ABC 17 News crews just got on scene and say several firefighter trucks are still at the complex.

No word yet on what caused the fire or if anyone was hurt.

ORIGINAL: Firefighter are responding to reports of a fire Thursday morning.

It happened just before 5:00am in the 2300 block of Providence Road.

Public dispatch records show at least nine emergency units are on the scene.

ABC 17 News heard reports that smoke and flames were showing.
