Two dozen firefighters battle Boone County barn blaze

A large barn fire Wednesday night shut down a Boone County road just north of Columbia.

More than two dozen firefighters with the county’s Fire Protection District worked to put out the fire in the 6700 block of Wagon Trail Road, just north of Columbia.

Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp told ABC 17 News on scene the homeowners called 9-1-1 around 11:30 p.m. to report the fire. The metal roof of the tin barn had collapsed, but Blomenkamp said no people or animals were inside at the time of the fire. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

Deputies blocked one lane of Wagon Trail Road, just northeast of the roundabout with Rangeline Street and Highway 63, while multiple tankers and engines responded.

Blomenkamp said they would also follow up on whether or not the barn had electricity connected to it and when the last time the homeowners used the barn.
