Fire district advises residents of ways to avoid a home fire this winter

As temperatures drop below freezing, many homes will start to rely on their heating sources, space heaters, chimneys or wood-burning stoves for warmth.

Boone County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp is urging people using those to get professionals to check their systems before winter use.

Blomenkamp told ABC 17 News that the most popular types of winter fires are from chimneys, space heaters and cooking. He also noted that those fires can also be the most preventable fires.
