2016 city of Columbia community survey sent to residents

The city of Columbia on Monday sent out its 2016 community survey to a random sample of residents.

The survey has two new questions relating to additional police officers.

Question 31 on the 2016 community survey asks residents how likely they would be to support an increase in property taxes to fund 50 more police officers. The survey says an owner of a $200,000 home would pay about $10 more a month in property taxes.

Question 32 is similar to question 31, but instead of property taxes being increased, it asks how likely the resident would be to support a new quarter-cent sales tax to fund 50 additional police officers in Columbia. The sales tax would add 2.5 cents to every $5 spent on purchases in Columbia.

Question 33 is also new. It asks residents if they know which streets in Columbia are city owned or state owned.

The majority of the questions on the 2016 survey are the same as those on the 2015 survey.

Residents in the city of Columbia who may not have received the survey can take it on Columbiagov.org.
