Boone County gains four outdoor warning sirens

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County has four new outdoor warning sirens, with sites including one near Hallsville in the north and one near Pierpont in the south.

Contractors worked to install the four sirens over the past two weeks, the Boone County Office of Emergency Management said Tuesday. The sites -- Bluebird Lane near Route N in the Pierpont area, Olivet Road near Route WW east of Columbia, Bentwood Lane between Hallsville and Centralia, and Starla Road near Route VV in the Hinton area -- are in places that had poor siren coverage, the agency said in a news release.

The sirens were paid for through a voter-approved 911 sales tax. The county now has 92 such sirens in place, according to the emergency management office.

Sirens are tested at noon on the first Wednesday of each month.
