However, the December payments that went out last week could be the last.

The benefit of up to $300 per child paid directly to families has expired but an extension is part of President Joe Biden's Build Back Better plan. The bill is hung up in the Senate, making the future uncertain for the tax credit that supporters say has helped lift families out of poverty.
