Columbia swim club files permit with DNR after dead fish investigation
The West Broadway Swim Club has filed an application for a general permit after an investigation by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources revealed the facility violated the Clean Water Commission Regulations and the Missouri Clean Water Law.
ABC 17 News confirms the permit was filed Friday, October 14. According to the DNR’s September report from their investigation, the swimming club was given a deadline of October 19 to file for a permit with the DNR.
The DNR began investigating the club in September after a man noticed dead fish in a tributary behind his house. Their investigation concluded the organization dumped more than 100,000 gallons of chlorinated water without a permit, leaving 251 fish dead.
Following the investigation, the club issued an apology, saying they deeply regret the error and were complying with DNR in its investigation.
ABC 17 News contacted the West Broadway Swim Club today, and they tell us, “All requested information and the permit application has been submitted to the Missouri DNR.”
