Tracking triple-digit heat through midweek

THIS AFTERNOON: Dangerously hot, with a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees and mostly sunny skies.

TONIGHT: Warm and muggy, feeling like the 80s most of the night. Lows fall to the upper 70s.

EXTENDED: The heat index will soar above 100 degrees each day through the Fourth of July, triggering a string of ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days through Saturday. This heat can be deadly with prolonged exposure and little time to cool off, and warm nights keep the body from recovering. Stay hydrated at all hours of the day and check in on neighbors this week. Isolated storms will begin popping up on Friday and Saturday, but no widespread relief is expected. The heat dome slowly weakens over the weekend, though the heat index remains in the 90s for much of next week.
