Clinton and Trump’s first presidential debate

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton had their first presidential debate Monday night at Hofstra University in Hempstead, hosted by Lester Holt.

Holt asked the candidates questions on topics that included America’s prosperity, direction and security.

Trump emphasized his support of stricter borders, keeping American businesses from outsourcing and how he plans to use law and order to bridge the racial tension in inner cities.

Clinton talked about her plans to close private prisons, increase the taxes on the wealthy and keep military-grade weapons away from the streets.

Holt ended the debate by asking the candidates if they would be willing to accept the outcome of the voters. Both Clinton and Trump agreed that they would support whomever the voters elected.

The debates will continue with the vice presidential debate at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, on Oct. 4; the presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, on Oct. 9; and the presidential debate at University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Oct. 19.
