Face-to-face assistance no longer available at Jefferson City IRS office

The Internal Revenue Service announced Friday afternoon that face-to-face assistance is not available at the Taxpayer Assistance Center In Jefferson City.

Any taxpayers in central Missouri that are unable to resolve their tax question by visiting the IRS website and that need face-to-face help will now have to call 1-844-545-5640 to schedule an appointment in the IRS Assistance Center in Chesterfield.

In the release, IRS Spokesperson Michael Devine stated “We strongly encourage taxpayers seeking assistance to visit our website at IRS.Gov.” and “Taxpayers can often get the tax information they need or resolve a tax problem without having to call or visit an IRS office. The IRS website is www.irs.gov.

ABC 17 has reached out to Devine to find the reason for the service ending, but he was unavailable for comment.
