Tracking rain that cools us even further this weekend

TODAY: Thursday is dry and partly cloudy. A few showers may impact our westernmost counties this evening; otherwise, rain holds off until overnight. Highs are forecast in the upper 80s amid southeast winds. With dew points in the 50s to 60s, we should feel like the 80s to 90s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected overnight, especially after midnight.

EXTENDED: Temperatures are near 70 on Friday morning, as scattered showers and weak thunderstorms make for a wet start to the day. This first round of rain will clear by noon. Some dry time will allow for instability to build in the atmosphere ahead of a second round of storms redeveloping late in the afternoon and in the early evening. There is a chance for a strong storm or two within more widespread showers and storms in this second round. Damaging wind is our main threat. We expect 0.25 to 1 inch of rain, with locally higher amounts possible in the northeast. A cold front will clear rain to the east and leave us drier for Saturday, but some moisture may wrap back around this system to keep low clouds and showers present to start the day. Between this and a north wind, we'll be well cooler on Saturday. Highs are expected in the 70s Saturday, before more sunshine and south wind return highs to the 80s Sunday through Tuesday.
