Suspect on the loose after shooting at Sylvan Lane and Whitegate Road

UPDATE: It has been confirmed by officials that there is a male victim from the shooting in his twenties or thirties, and that the suspect is a black male running on foot.

No word yet on the victim’s condition or his name. An updated suspect description has not been released.

Neighbors in the area didn’t know much about this particular shooting, but long-term residents said they believe the violent crime stems from transient tenants in the duplexes and apartments in the area.

They said the landlords need to have better discretion about who they rent to. Residents also cite drug activity as a major player in the violent crime problem.

ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities responded to Sylvan Lane and Whitegate Road Friday morning after a possible shooting.

Medics and police were dispatched to the scene. Crime scene tape has been set up.
