UPDATE: Bond lowered for teenager charged in connection with deadly Columbia shooting

UPDATE 9/21: As of Tuesday, the judge for Sanders’ case has ordered to lower his bond to $25,000 per count. Sanders will be put on house arrest with a GPS monitoring device.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 17.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Columbia teenager has been charged in connection with Wednesday’s deadly shooting. Court documents say Jadarius Sanders, 18, has been charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution.

According to the court documents, a witness saw the victim, Marquez Reed, walk up to a car and have an argument with a passenger shortly before Reed was fatally shot. The documents claim Sanders admitted to being the driver of that car, and said a passenger in the car shot Reed.

Sanders then admitted to driving to a home on West Bethany Drive, so that another person in the car could hide the gun used to shoot Reed.

Sanders is currently in the Boone County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.

Marquez D. Reed, 17, of Columbia, was killed in Wednesday night’s shooting near Allen Street and LaSalle Place.

The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Allen Street and LaSalle Place. Reed was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are treating this case as a homicide, but have no suspect information. It’s not clear yet what led to the shooting.

Police blocked off part of Trinity Place and Boone Drive while detectives and the Forensic Evidence Team collected information and evidence.

Officers ask those with information about the crime, to contact the Columbia Police Department, or Crimestoppers at (573)875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
