Lincoln University looks into mold claims

Lincoln University is investigating reports of mold in some of its dorm rooms Monday.

Staci Smith’s daughter lives on campus and has been in and out of the hospital for months with reactive respiratory disease and dermatitis. Smith told ABC 17 News the University hasn’t done anything about it.

“This is not chip paint, this is mold,” said Smith, showing ABC 17 News the photos. “Look at this. It’s furry, all of that. Did you see that? That is not dirt.”

Smith said her daughter’s sickness stems from the mold in her dorm on Lincoln University’s campus.

“This can’t grow overnight,” Smith said.

Smith said the Residential assistants were the ones that relocated students getting sick to other dorms.
“The University hasn’t reached out to me,” she said.

After receiving multiple complaints from concerned parents and students, ABC 17 News reached out to Lincoln University.

The school responded in a statement: “On Sunday, September 18, the office of residential life staff received reports of possible mold in rooms in Dawson Hall. The students in the room have been reassigned to another facility. Staff from Facilities Management have inspected the rooms, and an outside firm has been contacted to determine if there is mold present.”

The school sad the reports of possible mold are from one floor and one wing of the building and that it is affecting about 15 students.

ABC 17 News will continue to make calls to the school and ask how it’s working to keep the dorm clean.
