Washington Park Ice Arena closes after flooding in Jefferson City

The Washington Park Ice Arena is closed indefinitely after flooding overnight.

Flash floods hit the area around the arena around 1:15 am Saturday, according to Jefferson City Parks and Recreation.

“We actually had a couple employees down here about 12:30 or 1:00 this morning, got a phone call from them saying that the creek was out and the water was starting to come into the ice arena,s o they were trapped in here actually until 5:30 this morning,” Phil Stiles with Jefferson City Parks and Recreation said.

About 2.5 feet of standing water filled the building according to Stiles.

A professional cleaning company worked to clean the arena all day.

The ice area just reopened a week ago after it flooded on Aug. 1.

Stiles said he hoped to have the arena open in a month, but that time frame could change.
