Lafayette Street interchange opening delayed

UPDATE: MoDOT announced Friday work has progressed on the Lafayette Street interchange in Jefferson City. It is now set to open to drivers Tuesday, September 13.

The finish date is a few days later than originally projected due to this week’s heavy rainfall.

“With the work taking place outside, obviously weather does impact it,” MoDOT Engineer Patty Lemongelli said.

Jefferson City received about 2.57 inches of rain since Wednesday, according to the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team.

The work on the Clark Avenue overpass is now scheduled to start Thursday, September 15. The overpass will be shut down for about 45 days.

Work on the Clark Avenue overpass over Route 50/63 was also delayed. Work will now start on Monday, September 19. When the work starts, the overpass will be closed for 45 days.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says the interchange completion is one of the last milestones of the estimated $20 million Lafayette Street Interchange project.
