Fire officials investigating cause of early morning house fire in north Columbia

UPDATE 9/8: According to the Columbia Fire Department, the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the exterior of the residence, originally from an electrical outlet. The damage from the fire is estimated to be at $2000.

ORIGINAL STORY: Fire crews are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire in Columbia.

It happened just before 7:30 Thursday morning in the 1900 block of Garden Drive. Fire crews saySeven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to the call.

Firefighters say they arrived to find flameson the outside of the back of the single family home.

Fire crews say they were able to put the flames out within 15 minutes.

They say no one was hurt in the fire.

Fire crews say an assistant fire marshal is on the scene investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

No word yet on a damage estimate.
