Severe storm and flooding threat

Periods of showers and t-storms will occur from late Wednesday night through early Saturday morning as a cold front moves into the region, picking up tropical moisture from the southwest. This will cause heavy rain to fall with some of the storms with highest rainfall totals expected south of I-70 with up to 4 inches possible by Saturday morning. Localized flooding is possible Thursday night through Saturday morning due to high rainfall rates in storms.

In addition to the flooding threat, there is a marginal threat for severe storms with damaging wind to 60 mph Thursday afternoon through early evening with the best chance south of I-70. The severe storm threat will develop again Friday evening as a line of storms moves in from the northwest ahead of a cold front, slowly moving to near I-44 by 8 AM Saturday. Damaging winds are the primary threat with a lower threat of large hail. Heavy rain is likely with Friday night’s storms which will increase the flooding threat overnight.
