State audit finds security weaknesses in court records system
A recent audit of the state’s System of Case and Record Management of the Judiciary found multiple cybersecurity problems.
“The Office of State Courts Administrator has an obligation to ensure court information and records are handled securely and accurately, and with the responsible management of public dollars,” state Auditor Nicole Galloway said. “The current system lacks necessary safeguards to identify inappropriate or unusual activity. This audit includes recommendations to improve accountability and better protect the integrity of case information.”
The report lists problems with the system-generated password protocol that open court records to potential unauthorized modification.
The audit also found that many former employees of the Office of State Courts Administrator still had active accounts despite no longer being employed by the office.
The audit gave the Office of the State Courts Administrator Judicial Information System an overall performance rating of “fair.”
