Several Missouri amusement parks received OSHA violations

Several amusement parks in Missouri have received OSHA violations and investigations in the past six years.

ABC 17 News investigated to see how many OSHA violations amusement parks in Missouri have received following a deadly ride incident at a Kansas water park.

According to the Occupation of Safety and Health Administration’s website and area directors, three amusement parks in Missouri have received OSHA violations.

Back in 2011, Coco Key Water Resort in Kansas City, Missouri, was cited several times for lack of control of hazardous energy. This can range from electrical to chemical materials that could be hazardous to workers. The case was closed in 2012, with an initial penalty of $8,000.

In May of 2016, OSHA investigated a complaint at Six Flags St. Louis about leaking roofs. Several days later, the amusement park fixed those complaints.

Silver Dollar City in Branson is currently under investigation, but as of now, the area director could not give a reason for the investigation.

Bill McDonald, OSHA’s St. Louis office area director, told ABC 17 News that of the cases he has overseen and worked, amusement parks in the area have been pretty good about making sure their facilities are kept up to standards.
