Two men drown loading boat at Lake of the Ozarks

ABC 17 News confirmed two people drowned Monday morning while trying to load a pontoon boat at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Troop F believes the men, 46-year-old Dennis Michel and 40-year-old Jacob Seeman were loading a boat at a ramp when it got away from them around 8:20 a.m. According to the patrol, one of the men went into the water trying to catch it, before he started to struggle due to a medical condition. The second man tried saving him, before they both fell below the surface.

Troopers confirmed their bodies were recovered just west of Lake Ozark near the 13.5 mile marker of the Big Niangua arm around 10:40 a.m.

Dive teams with the Mid-County Fire Protection District were also responded to the scene and helped with the search efforts. They used sonar to scan the bottom of the lake floor before finding a likely area where both victims were discovered.

The state patrol expects to release their names after family members are notified on Monday.
