Igloos return for winter season

OMAHA, Nebraska (KETV) — Instead of an ice rink, igloos are making a comeback at the Capitol District this year. It is part of what organizers hope will become a new tradition for families and friends.
There are eight igloos at the plaza area. Each sits up to eight people. You get two options when you reserve an igloo: dining or lounging. For dining, you can grab food from the surrounding restaurants or bars and they will deliver it to you.
Inside, you get an individual heater, which keeps you pretty toasty, but you should still wear something warm. The enclosure keeps you insulated from the winds and any flurries or snow. You get one and a half hours in your igloo and free parking for up to two cars.
“I think this is really fun because people still want to be outside in the winter, but a lot of us don’t want to be cold. So just being able to feel like you’re outside, especially if it’s snowing, that’s kind of magical,” said Natalie Wallace, who represents the Capitol District. “It’s just a unique experience that you aren’t going to get anywhere else.”
The idea for these igloos was actually born out of the pandemic, which shut down the usual ice skating rink last year. Staff thoroughly clean each globe after every visit, plus they run an ionizer to purify the air inside. If you want to book a reservation, you can do so here.
