Callaway County man charged in weekend shooting
A Callaway County man was charged in court Tuesday in connection with a weekend shooting.
Shawn Cox, 42, of Holts Summit, is charged with two counts of felony first-degree assault, felony unlawful use of a weapon, felony armed criminal action and misdemeanor drug possession.
Cox was arrested at his Holts Summit home on Monday following the execution of a search warrant.
Investigators have accused Cox of firing a shotgun at two people Sunday at the Holts Summit Civic Center at Greenway Park. Cox told police, and later ABC 17 News over the phone, that he never brought or fired a gun at the alleged victim’s car.
Police said Cox’s son had arranged through text messages to fight another man at the location. Officers learned during their investigation that Cox showed up to the fight with a shotgun.
He allegedly fired the weapon four times at the man and a woman, who had watched the brawl, as they tried to leave in a car.
Investigators found four dents in the vehicle’s passenger side door.
While searching Cox’s home, officers said they discovered the shotgun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
A Callaway County warrant has been issued for Cox’s arrest.
