Man charged in connection to Camden County homicide investigation

A Gravois Mills man has been charged following the death of a 31-year-old Versailles man Saturday afternoon in Camden County.

Michael Hardy Jr., 31, is charged with first degree involuntary manslaughter. The victim in Satuday’s incident has been identified as Beau McCartney, 31.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said the two men were fighting at a home in the 100 block of Dove Drive around 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

Hardy called for medics when McCartney went unconscious. He told police McCartney had been inhaling compressed air from a can before the fight.

McCartney was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities took Hardy into custody on scene Saturday. He’s currently in the Camden County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
