Columbia’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s held Saturday

Columbia's annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s was held Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park.

Hundreds of walkers were decked out in purple with personalized t-shirts honoring loved ones.

The walk was full of flowers, each carried by someone committed to ending the disease, because like flowers, the participants don't stop when something's in their way.

There were also several buildings across Columbia that were illuminated in purple to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s from Thursday to Saturday. This includes the Memorial Student Union, Shelter Insurance Corporate Office and fountains, the City Hall Keyhole Statue, and Broadway street will be adorned with flowers and signs promoting the walk.

According to the walk's website, "All local events will implement safety protocols including physical distancing, contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations and more. Per CDC guidelines around crowded outdoor settings, we ask that all walk attendees be vaccinated against COVID-19 or wear a mask when in an overcrowded area. Masks will be available on-site."
