Man arrested on potential burglary, sex offender charges

Boone County deputies arrested a man Tuesday afternoon after he led them on a chase, according to a detective at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

Dennis Bunn, 33, is now facing multiple charges including resisting arrest and burglary.

The Boone County Sheriff’s department received a call about a possible abandoned vehicle in the 3900 block of McGill Point Drive Tuesday. Deputies learned the car, a 2008 Mercury Mariner, had been reported stolen out of Columbia the day before.

Deputies then received reports of a suspicious person in the area. This turned out to be Bunn. When a deputy spoke with Bunn, he ran off into the woods. The deputy caught him and found he had meth in his possession. Bunn was taken to the hospital because he had an adverse reaction after ingesting meth.

Later that afternoon, deputies received reports of a burglary from a homeowner at 3100 N McGill Creek Road, which is near the area Bunn was found.

Property belonging to the homeowner, Bunn’s Missouri ID card, and a pipe with methamphetamine residue was found outside that home.

Bunn is now in the Boone County Jail. He is a parole absconder, and is facing charges for tampering, resisting arrest, burglary, use and possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to register as a sex offender.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department tells ABC 17 they are very grateful a citizen called in to report suspicious activity. Without getting the call, we’re told deputies would probably not have caught Dunn.
