Fire damages deck in South Columbia

The Columbia Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 3200 block of Old 63 South, Copper Beach Townhomes around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Crews arrived in less than five minutes and saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the home on the deck.

Firefighters were able to get the incident under control in about 10 minutes.

The damage was contained to the deck and siding of the home.

Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley estimated the damage around $3,000. The fire started in a five gallon bucked used to discard ashes.

Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this event. There were no reported injuries.
