Investigators searching for a cause after Columbia house fire breaks out on deck

Columbia firefighters responded to a house fire early Saturday morning on Clickscales road.

It happened just after 5:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Clinkscales. A neighbor reportedly called 911 after seeing the fire.

Firefighters on scene told ABC 17 News the fire was on the back deck. Two people were home at the time and firefighters were able to get them out safely. No one was injured.

Crews were on scene a little more than an hour investigating and making sure there was no further threat to the home. Firefighters were using chainsaws to chop up parts of the deck to make sure there was no more fire or embers in the wood that could spark up again.

The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
