Man charged with leaving the scene of an accident after crashing into a building

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Boone County prosecutor has charged a Columbia man after he allegedly crashed into a business Friday morning then leaving the scene of the wreck.

Dakota Foley, 29, was charged on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, causing property damage worth more than $1,000.

The Columbia police and fire departments were called to the 1900 block of North Providence Road around 2:15 a.m. Friday morning, after reports that a car crashed into a building.

ABC 17 News crews arrived on the scene just before 2:30 a.m. Friday and found a path of damage left by the vehicle, which ended up halfway into a business on Providence Road.

Police could be seen canvassing the area with flashlights looking for additional damage, as the car also hit and knocked over a light pole before crashing into the building.

The owner of General Printing, the building that suffered damage from the crash, said the car caused quite a bit of damage on his property and added he was waiting on crews to show back up to assess damages.

The Columbia Fire Department confirmed at the scene that no one was in the car when crews arrived. It is unclear if anyone suffered injuries.

This comes as ABC 17 has reported at least three additional car crashes into buildings in the past month. Two took place on Sept. 15 when a truck crashed into a home and an SUV crashed into the Boone County Fire Protection District.

Crews also responded to a car crash into a building on Sep. 20, after a driver lost control of the car.

Foley's bond is set at $15,000. He is in the Boone County Jail.
