Jefferson City Police Department enforcing Click It or Ticket

Jefferson City Police Department is out in full force tonight to enforce Click It or Ticket to get more motorists to buckle up.

Jefferson City Police Department say over 63% of motorists that were involved in an accident were not wearing a seatbelt. Every one in five Missouri residents don’t wear seat belts on the day to day basis.

Missouri currently does not have a primary seat belt law, which means an officer can not pull you over for a seat belt citation unless another law is broken.

Officer Thomas with Jefferson City Police Department says he “doesn’t want to play a numbers game, it’s not about the numbers it’s about doing his job… if that means he has to cite someone, he will.”

A ticket for not wearing a seat belt can range to up to $10. For some, that doesn’t seem like a lot, but the greater cost is it could cost someone else’s life.
