Michael Brown’s mother testifies at body cam hearing

Michael Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden, just testified on Wednesday in support of a bill that would require more police officers in Missouri to wear body cameras.

The proposed bill would require law enforcement officers to wear body cameras while they are on duty or in uniform. It would only apply to the five larges cities in the state, including Springfield, Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia and Independence.

Under the bill, officers must record all interactions from beginning to end. The bill also says that an officer who fails to record contact will be suspended without pay until an investigation into why the contact wasn’t recorded is complete.

Michael Brown was unarmed when he was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer in August 2014. His death sparked a number of protests in the city and throughout the nation.
