Woman hurt after car crashes into tree, slides into ravine on Route B

ABC 17 News confirmed one woman was taken to the hospital via ambulance after driving off Route B, hitting a tree and then sliding into a ravine.

It happened about 15 minutes northeast of Columbia around 10:40 a.m. at McGee Road and Route B, which becomes Paris Road.

Crews told ABC 17 News they had to open the driver’s door because, due to the extensive damage to her car, she could not get out on her own. Once they opened the door, the driver was able to walk out of the car on her own.

Crews at the scene also told ABC 17 News that the crash happened when traffic on Route B slowed, so the woman swerved to avoid a collision. That’s when she slid off the road and then down into the embankment.

The woman’s vehicle was quickly cleared from the scene. There were no lanes blocked nor any traffic restrictions.
