Man arrested in Georgia for central Columbia shooting

A Columbia man is now back in mid-Missouri after he was caught in Georgia for a robbery and shooting last October. Investigators believe Davontay Hayes pistol-whipped a 17 year-old, before shooting into the back of a house.

Hayes was booked in the Boone County jail Monday afternoon after coming from Dekalb Co., Ga.

Officers say the teen was parked in the home’s driveway with a family friend near Worley Street and McBaine Avenue the night of October 25, when four men with at least three guns approached their car, demanding money.

When he refused, he says two people beat him with a gun. He escaped into the house, and police say the suspects fired several times before the teenager and his family friend left in their car. No one was injured.
